“We love you, respect you, admire you,” said Mr. Netanyahu to a cheering crowd, that represented a larger number than the Jewish population of India, that gathered here from various parts of the country.

In his speech, Mr. Modi recalled several Jewish Indians who had served in India, including General JFR Jacob, and hundreds of Indians who worked to “make the desert bloom” in Israel in farming jobs.

Surender Gupta Dunar Washington:  The US Supreme Court's partial reinstatement of President Donald Trump's controversial travel ban has immigration lawyers and travelers trying to unpack how exactly the ban will be implemented when it takes effect Thursday.

The court ruled that the president's executive order targeting citizens from six mainly Muslim countries could go into partial effect.

But the court eased its punch by saying the measure could only be applied to travelers from those targeted countries "who lack any bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the United States."

Though Trump has claimed the Supreme Court's decision a national security win, the partial ban is narrower in scope than the president's first two versions. Here's what we know about what the ruling means:

Surender Gupta Dunar Updates - India cricket coach Anil Kumble stepped down from his position after a widely-speculated feud with captain Virat Kohli, marking a bitter end to a highly successful tenure.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirms that Anil Kumble has withdrawn his services as the post of the Head Coach for the Senior India Men’s team. While the Cricket Advisory Committee had endorsed an extension to his tenure as Head Coach, Anil Kumble has decided not to continue as the coach.” -BCCI Statement

Kumble's decision comes in the wake of reports claiming rifts between him and Kohli, and just two days after India's embarrassing loss to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final.

His one year contract expired at the end of the Champions Trophy but he was given the option to travel with the team to the West Indies for the limited overs series beginning on Friday.

However, Kumble decided to stay back in London for the ICC 'Annual Conference' as he is the chairman of the Cricket Committee while the Indian team boarded the flight for Barbados.

Kohli had met the BCCI top brass along with Kumble in London before leaving for the West Indies on Tuesday. The meeting took place after the high-profile Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) communicated to the BCCI that it had failed resolve the differences between Kumble and Kohli.

The BCCI had invited fresh applications for the post of head coach days before the start of Champions Trophy.

Kumble was a direct entry into the coach selection process while the others who applied for the post were Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus and Lalchand Rajput among others.

On the sidelines of the Champions Trophy in the UK, the CAC comprising Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly held meetings with Kumble as well as Kohli to sort out the differences between the duo.

It was being widely perceived in the BCCI that in the meeting between Kohli and CAC, the skipper had made it clear that his relationship with the coach had reached a dead end.

It was only the CAC which had picked Kumble as the coach last year. It has been learnt that the committee will soon have a conference call to decide on Kumble's successor.

Among various allowances, the Union cabinet is likely to discuss the House Rent Allowance (HRA) which has been a major concern for government employees. 

The long wait for nearly 50 lakh Central government employees over revised allowances could end today. The Narendra Modi-led Cabinet is expected to meet today to take a final call on allowances under the Seventh Pay Commission.
Some reports had suggested that the Modi government could start rolling out revised allowances from July.
The Union cabinet had okayed the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission in June last year, and since then it has been a long wait for employees to get the full benefits of the report's implementation.
Central government employees, on several occasions, have expressed their disappointment over the long delay in rolling out revised allowances.
Earlier, the Union Cabinet was expected to take up the subject of allowances in its last meeting held on June 7.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is likely to table the proposal for the revised allowance structure at the Cabinet meet today.
Among various allowances, the Cabinet is likely to discuss the House Rent Allowance (HRA), which has been a major concern for government employees.
HERE IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SEVENTH PAY COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. The Seventh Pay Commission recommended axing 53 of the 196 allowances that Central government employees get besides merging 36 smaller allowances into bigger ones.
2. The Seventh Pay Commission also suggested bringing down the House Rent Allowance (HRA) rates for Central government employees by varying degrees depending on the type of city. For Metros, the pay panel suggested reducing the HRA from 30 per cent to 24 per cent.
3. As Central government employees protested against the recommendations, the Modi government constituted a committee under Finance Secretary Ashok Lavasa in July last year to review the suggestions. The Lavasa panel submitted its report to Arun Jaitley on April 27.
4. Before filing the review report, the Lavasa panel held discussions with all stakeholders, including representatives of Central government employees and various government departments.
5. A Finance Ministry statement on the Lavasa report said that "modifications have been suggested in some allowances which are applicable universally to all Central government employees as well as certain other allowances which apply to specific employee categories".
6. The Ashok Lavasa report was sent to the Department of Expenditure for a first round of review before being placed before the Empowered Committee of Secretaries (E-CoS) for another round of screening.
7. Before the E-CoS submitted its report to the Union cabinet, representatives of Central government employees wrote to Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha and said that they were clueless about the recommendations of the Ashok Lavasa Committee on Allowances. They also expressed anguish over inordinate delay in implementation of the Lavasa panel's report.
8. After screening the Ashok Lavasa report on allowances, the Empowered Committee of Secretaries (E-CoS) forwarded the report along with its suggestions to the government after a June 1 meeting.
9. If reports are to be believed, Central government employees are likely to start getting revised allowances under the Seventh Pay Commission from July.
10. The Central government, however, may not be keen on giving arrears on allowances, one of the key demands by employees. According to some reports, employee unions have planned protests if the demand of arrears on allowances is not met.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continued its political dominance in Maharashtra with resounding electoral victories in key municipalities and zilla parishads across the State. It won eight of the 10 municipal elections that were held on February 21. The Shiv Sena, its erstwhile ally, won in Mumbai and Thane.

In the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), it was a close call, with the Sena winning 84 out of the 227 seats and the BJP 82. In Thane, the Sena won 67 of the 131 seats, while the BJP won only 23, fewer than the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which bagged 34 seats.

In eight other municipal zones, the BJP swept the elections, giving Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis a major image boost as well as an upper hand against the Sena, a party that is a part of the government. For the municipal elections, the Sena had broken the alliance and dared the BJP to go it alone.

In Pune, the BJP won 98 of the 162 seats, with the NCP coming a distant second with 40 seats and the Sena bagging a mere 10. In Nagpur, Mr. Fadnavis’ home town, the BJP won 108 of the 151 seats, leaving the Congress way behind with 29 seats. In Nashik, where Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had won in the 2012 elections, the BJP won 67 of the 122 seats. The MNS was decimated, with just five seats.

“This victory has made us more powerful in Maharashtra,” Mr. Fadnavis said at a press conference. “Our politics consists of trust and transparency. This result is a clear indication that Mumbaikars and the people from the rest of the State have accepted our way of functioning. No other party in the last 25 years has delivered such results.”

The police, who issued a press release in the early hours of Monday, said the protest had been staged in a disciplined and peaceful manner without causing inconvenience to the general public and hindrance to the traffic.

The police said the state government had passed an ordinance and taken an initiative to conduct jallikattu in various places+ in Tamil Nadu and to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu.

"Through an exemplary display of unity and discipline, the purpose of the protest has been fully achieved," the statement said, requesting the protesters to cooperate with the police.

The protesters got a copy of the ordinance around 6am, and a lawyer read it out.

Police also started evicting protesters in other places in the state, including in Coimbatore and Vellore.

Victoria police confirmed on Friday afternoon the victims were a young child and a man and a woman, both in their 30s. None of the dead were believed to be related.

Victorian police commissioner Graham Ashton said the death toll could rise, as five of the injured were listed as critical, including a child whose pram could be seen lying on the road amid the carnage.

The Royal Children’s hospital said earlier it was treating five casualties, including a two-year-old who was in intensive care and a three-month-old who was undergoing an operation. Figures released by several other Melbourne hospitals put the total number of injured at 25, but in an afternoon media conference Ashton said he knew of 15 injured.

A 26-year-old man was taken into custody with non life-threatening injuries after police rammed his car and fired several shots. Police said the events had no connection with terrorism and the suspect, who was well known to them, had mental health and drug issues.

The chaos began when the man, driving a maroon Commodore, stopped traffic by doing burnouts outside Flinders Street station about 1.30pm local time. He then drove up Swanston Street, turned left down Bourke Street mall and began mowing down pedestrians, police said.

Writer-activist Kamal C. Chavara has alleged that he was attacked by a man claiming to be a Sangh Parivar member at Kunnamangalam here on Sunday.

The incident took place at a bar at Karanthur, where, the writer said, the attacker approached him asking if he was the same ‘Kamalsi,’ who had burnt his book publicly on Saturday.

When he said yes, the attacker is alleged to have abused him verbally and then slapped and pushed him. The writer was admitted to the Government General Hospital in Kozhikode.

Mr. Chavara told The Hindu that the attacker claimed that he worshipped Hanuman every day and that he was from Wayanad. “He slapped me and pushed me several times on the chest. He seemed quite drunk. I informed the police and did not leave the bar for two hours as the man had threatened to attack again if I left the place”, he said. The attacker had expressed anger at the burning of a copy of his novel ‘Smashanangalude Note Pusthakam’ here.

The Kunnamangalam police, who took the attacker into custody, described the incident as a drunken brawl. They had not received any complaint and no case was registered.

An alleged paedophile, who had been making weekly visits to the Capital for the past 13 years preying on children, has been arrested.

Sunil Rastogi, a tailor from Rudrapur town on the UP-Uttarakhand border, has been named in at least six cases of sexual assault or attempted sexual assault on children, said the police.

“He mainly targeted those girls whose parents did nor accompany them on their way to school or home and then took them with himself on different pretexts, always looking for a secluded place to sexually assault them,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Omvir Singh Bishnoi.

Three recent cases were reported in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar — one on December 13 and two others on January 12 — where he allegedly targeted girls aged between seven and 10 years.

Trap laid

“In the first case, he told the girl that her father had sent him to pick her up. He then took her to an isolated under-construction building, where he sexually assaulted her,” said Mr. Bishnoi.

The man’s image was, however captured on a CCTV camera on the building’s premises.

The initial clues that the police gathered pointed to the involvement of a habitual offender.

His details were tallied with that of some criminals who had been recently released.

But even as the police were in the process of narrowing down the list, the second incident happened.

Accused flees

On January 12, Rastogi tried to abduct a 10-year-old girl outside the government school where she studies.

As the girl cried for help, he fled, but his next stopover was another government school, barely a kilometre away from the first.

“The second victim, too, raised an alarm, forcing Rastogi to flee,” said Mr. Bishnoi.

Based on technical surveillance and the versions of the victims, the police then identified Rastogi.

“When the three incidents happened, Rastogi was out on bail in a Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act,” said Mr. Bishnoi.
